Tassie Treats

Pete and I were happily met by mum and dad Jones at the Hobart Airport on Tues. It was great driving to the Huon and visiting with the Watson Clan, especially as all the kids were there. It was amazing to see Emma' s beautiful girls looking so big. Most enjoyable was falling in love...with a golden labrador puppy - the latest addition to their family. I am so clucky for a puppy!! Not going to happen until we get our own place, or a more lenient Landlord.

Anyway, Pete, myself and the parents did some touristy stuff on the West Coast. I have wanted to do the ABT railway for ages, and finally got to experience it. It was a great experience and a nice day chugging along on the train. The nice rocking lull of the train had me dozey right after lunch, which prompted the tour guide to stop commenting for a bit as "some of us looked a little weary."

I could talk for ages, but don't want to write a huge jornal type entry. Here's a shot of our trip.I'd add more, but mum and dad's internet is SLOW....this took about 10 mins to upload.

Holidays

Pete and I are officially on holidays. My last day of school was Friday (basically a massive staff lunch and much shenanigans). Pete had his last exam on Saturday.
We've been flat out cleaning etc and getting ready for our trip to Tassie. We head off tomorrow and are excited to be there for Christmas. I haven't seen Dad or my brothers for over a year, so I'm particularly excited to see them!

Movember

I realise Movember was obviously last month, but I wanted to share this funny pic with you all. Our school got behind the cause (to raise awareness/money for prostate cancer). Our Middle School teaching staff (the males only of course) grew mo's.
Pete did "attempt" to grow one, but it was nothing other than pathetic, and so he ended up shaving off his blonde try hard mo after 3 weeks. Man, that sounded harsh. Sorry honey!!
Anyway we sold stick-on mustaches at school a couple of weeks back, and to keep with the spirit of things, I got in on the act and bought one, and promptly put it on and had my class in stitches. Many of you will know I have very thin lips, and an absolutely non existent top lip. With a mo, it looks like I barely had a mouth. Of course it was a regular school day, and whilst the lessons weren't overly teacher directed that day, I did have to give instructions etc. After I'd outlined some expectations for the lesson, one of my especially conscientious students raised her hand, started giggling, and said "Mrs Watt, I'm really sorry, but I just can't take you seriously today."
In spite of typical rules, I asked one of the other students with a mo to open up 'Photobooth' on his computer so we could get a photo of our mo's. This student is a legend, and he actually looks like the Monopoly man! What do you think???

Anniversary

Yesterday (DEC 1st 2008) was Peter and my 1 year Wedding Anniversary. We treated ourselves to a beautiful evening of fine food, and dessert, and a beautiful sunset walk at the place we fell in Love (the old tree swing at St Marks College).
Keeping with tradition we liked the idea of doing the themed gift for each year. Seeing as though First year is PAPER, Pete bought me the remaining Twilight books from the series, and I framed him a gorgeous Japanese rice paper print.

Here is a collection of photos from our beautiful night.

Our wedding cake (defrosted after 1 year) It still wasn't quite defrosted properly
when we ate it! Oh well. That's patritti in the glasses.

lazy sunday

Today was Stake Conference. Pete and I sang in the choir which was lovely. We also went to the Saturday evening session of conference and sang there too. I LOVED the hymns we did. Both were gorgeous arrangements I had never heard before. We sang 'Love on Another' and Joseph Smith's First Prayer'. Both sessions of conference were awesome and the speakers excellent. I always come away feeling so refreshed and pumped to do better at everything. I also feel like I just love everybody!!
It was nice finishing church earlier and being able to spend a lazy sunday afternoon with family in Aldinga. I had a little snooze on the seat/swing at Bill and Sue's which was great until Jamie jumped on me. We hadn't seen our niece and nephew for ages so they went crazy when they saw us today. Jamie raced up to Peter, jumped on him and then promptly started hitting him in the face. When it was my turn Jamie wanted me to smother him with kisses and then started hitting me in the boob. Strange children.....

so I took some photos)

Sunday shenanigans

Pete and I like to match our outfits on Sundays...I know its dorky, but he tries to match his tie to my outfit where possible.
Mum took some photos with us Sunday evening as it was her last night here.

Me looking like a gansta for some unknown reason..don't you love those pre pose shots!

FISH

Mum and I cooked a red snapper tonight. I rarely buy fish as Pete isn't a huge fan unless it is the battered and deep fried variety from the fish n chip shop. I have a fascination for raw food with the heads still attached...don't ask me why!

New shoes

Mum is over at the moment, and has been spoiling me and Pete rotten. She bought me these shoes the other day...Also, she gave us an early Christmas present - a playstation 2! I can finally play my singstar!

I love my mum, though I wish she'd let me spoil her...

Yo Yo's 30th/Halloween Party

I'm yet another person to blog about their Halloween escapades. I raided the costume department at school and scored some good costumes for Yolanda Hatchard's 30th B'day. It was fun to dress up. Pete and I went as the Wicked Witch of the East and the Scarecrow...I even had ruby slippers!
We had a great time except for the fact that I was dizzy the whole time, and when I got home later I promptly threw up. Yuck. Needless to say I went to bed and slept very late the next day...Its been a big week.

Me as the Wicked Witch of the East

Pete as Scarecrow "if i only had a brain"

Dustin & Carmella as Pirates, Me & Pete and Yo Yo & Matt as the Indian Chief and his squaw

Camilla, Neil & Elissa

Alex and Aaron. I reckon Aaron has the best out of all the other Joker costumes I've seen this Halloween!!

Pulteney Grammar School- 190 South Terrace

Another beautiful day today in Adelaide. I work in such a wonderful place. Right on the edge of the CBD bordering on to the parklands. The school is one of the oldest in Australia. It was founded in 1848. Pulteney has a rich history. We even have our own school Archivist. I love the old buildings and courtyard area. Several of the buildings are heritage listed, and there is simply a beautiful atmosphere at the school. Its definitely not the most grand and exquisite school (check out St Peters Boys) but it has a wonderful community feel. It does not feel like a stuffy private school that's for sure.

I took some photos today because the roses are all in bloom and it looks great!

Laryngitus

Wednesday at school I was struggling to project my voice properly during my year 8 Japanese class. Thursday it was worse and I knew I would be struggling to teach. The kids were great though when I told them I needed them to be really focused on me and working quietly. Thurs arvo I spoke to the AP(assistant Principal) to ask for Friday off. I was a little surprised when she mentioned how tight we were for staff (Its year 12 Valedictory), so I asked if I could at least have my Fri afternoon off to go to a Dr. My colleagues were a bit taken aback to hear that I wasn't allowed the whole day off. Anyway, I went in Fri and my colleagues looked at me, heard me attempt to say good morning, and were adament that I shouldn't teach. My mate Simon immediately rang the AP and told her that he was covering my lesson 1 and 2 and that I just needed lesson 3 covered. He advocated for me and managed to get all my lesson covered. He is a darling! The staff I work with are amazing. We are all there for each other and willing to sacrifice for each other etc. It really is the best group of ppl I've ever worked with.
I still went to my lessons at the beginning to write stuff on the board and collect assignments. My year 9's were the cutest though. For a bunch of teenagers, they really are sweet and sincere. They were all telling me they'd miss me and that they hoped I'd get better. I got lots of high fives and get well soons as I left.

The dr told me to take a few days to rest my voice etc and gave me a perscription for what he said was the yummiest tasting cough syrup (I had a nasty chest cough at that stage). I got to the Chemist and asked for the syrup. The lady who served me said 'Have you ever had this syrup before?' Its the worst tasting stuff available, but the most effective one I know. I didn't realise that the Dr was being sarcastic...

Has anyone tried it, its called 'SENEGA and AMMONIA' and it is FOUL! It tastes vaguely like Sarspirella and it makes you shudder big time!

Anyway, I'm feeling pretty miserable with a runny nose. It never ceases to amaze me how much snot one can produce whilst sick....EWWWW

A Japanese meal with family

When I was living with my Aunty and Uncle in Willunga last year I kept promising them I'd cook them a traditional Japanese meal. Between moving out, getting married etc I never got around to it...Here it is a year later and I finally made good on that promise.
Me and Pete spent lots of time preparing all the food and had the best time making dumplings from scratch (except for the wonton wrappers).
For starters we had Miso soup, followed by Gyoza (Japanese dumplings) and then Okonomiyaki (savory seafood pancake). It was so yummy, and the company was even better.
We had my Uncle Steve and Aunty Mel with their kids Matt and Deanna and my Grandma.

Here are some photos. I'll post the recipes tomorrow in case anyone's interested in having a go...

First day of Term 4

Hi guys,

Twas the first day back with the students today. I had really missed them. I run the Middle School SRC and had to round them all up as it was our turn to run the chapel service for this week. I told them on the last day of term 3 but of course they'd all forgotten. I went for the locker area and soon gathered them up. Lots of my home group class were about and I got lots of nice compliments about my new hair cut. It's amazing that the students pay that much attention. The boys often say "Nice matching braclet and earrings Mrs Watt, where'd you get them from?" Or last week of term I got "You're looking very floral today Mrs Watt." I gotta admit, I love it. I love that my students are cheeky, it reminds me of me!
I have lots of stories already, but I'll save them for another day.

What I wanted to blog was actually just that I am losing my voice. Its been 1 day and I'm losing my voice...HELP! I'm praying its not the nasty laryngitis virus mum got a few weeks back...

Nice day for a picnic!

I have another nephew. His name is Benjamin Watt (Pete's brother's son). Since Pete's mum and dad are away in QLD, and the other parents are in Wyalla (3hrs away) Pete and I have become resident baby- sitters to my other niece and nephew - Meagan and Jamie. I spent the day with the 2 kids this week and we had a nice picnic of nutella sandwiches in the park, and played on 3 different playgrounds (we went playground hunting in the car). It was nice to take the kids outdoors, though I was wary of where they were at all times. I can easily see how little kids wander off so quick. I was happy they didn't cry, hurt themselves or cause any public nuisance in my care. YAY!

I don't have any pics of my new nephew yet. Sleeping baby photos are rather boring...unless you're an expert photographer.

I'm famous...sorta

On Tuesday Peter got an out of the blue message from a mate saying "your wife is on news.com.au." I immediately remembered back to 2 weeks prior when I was asked to pose for some photos for the Paper in my classroom. A week after that I had a phone interview with a journo but didn't think anything would end up in the paper. Because my school is right in the city of Adelaide and is pretty much the only co-ed private school in that vicinity, the Advertiser Newspaper and TV channels often come to our school for photo ops etc. We must have good looking students and teachers I reckon!
Anyway Pete and I were out grocery shopping and couldn't check the internet at that stage. When I got home I got a call from my Grandma exclaiming "why didn't you tell me you were going to be in the paper today." Anyway she was WAY TOO excited. The article as you can see is about literacy levels in SA students.

Getting my act into gear

This whole blogging thing has never seemed easy to me...I really struggle to come up with anything to blog. When I have time and I actually think, 'Hey Mel, you could post a blog' I sit there for ages and go blank. I've been looking at photos since I've been on holidays and I've been a little bit inspired to post some blogs...only prob is I want to simply add tonnes of photos from ages ago because right now I am really boring have next to no social life - thus not much to blog about.
I noticed the Tag Dag thingy on Collette's blog and thought I'd give it a go. It was really fun, and I loved reading Collettie's.
If I've tagged you, please give it a go..it was a nice trip down memory lane...

New laptop

Mine isn't red unfortunately :(
Thursday we had a meeting at school and were handed out brand new macbook (laptops) for
our use! Our Principal was like "go for it." So cool. Though if I'd have known that was to happen I wouldn't have bought one back in March. Oh well, at least it will stop complications with who gets to take the laptop to school. Pete has been using mine all year at Uni.
Here is a photo we took when playing with the new features.

Spider Solitaire

My husband, and my immediate family will attest to my secret obsession for spider solitaire (it used to be freecell). Anyway since it seems that people blog about the everyday tediums in their lives I figured I'd follow suit.
If you know the game you'd know it is rather difficult. I have been challenging myself to the advanced version which uses 4 suits. I have managed to solve it not once, not twice, but 3 times in the last few weeks.
I must be stressed - thats when I play it the most, when I'm procrastinating the other stuff in my life...

I do look pretty trashed in this photo.

Meagan and Jamie

I was so excited to get married to Pete. One of the countless reasons was that I would inherit 2 gorgeous kids; a niece and nephew. Pete's brother Andrew and his wife Meredith are the parents of Meagan (5) and Jamie (2).
Megan is a little madam but we love her to bits, and Jamie is such a gorgeous boy. Peter is his favourite person at the moment. His favourite word is Peter, though its pronounced more like PITA. He repeats it constantly and gets so excited when he sees his uncle! Though I totally understand that ;)
Here are a couple of pics of them looking cute as kids do so well!

YW Camp

Me and Pete just got back from camping at Rapid Bay with a bunch
of teenage girls! I had to go as I'm a YW leader, but Pete was invited along too.
We put him to work though and had him teach them to tie different types of knots,
and I taught the girls some first aid.
I only took a few photos, so will post more once I steal some off the girls!

Professional shots

In August last year (a few months before we got married) Pete and I had some professional photos done. Someone referred us and we got a free makeover thing and discount photos. It was a blast and we both felt pretty hot for the night! We'll keep these for our future children so they believe when we say we used to be hot!
