Henry is now 14 months but I wanted to post about his first year. And what a year it was since our little Henry joined the family. He is the sweetest, cheekiest and cutest little guy. I'm not going to lie, it's been a very tough year and I have a lot of mother guilt about some of the things I'd done this time around and feel that I've neglected Henry a bit. I didn't even take photos on his birthday for instance. Granted, he was really sick and just wanted to be snuggled into me all day but it felt so different compared to Will's first birthday. He did have some happy moments playing with his birthday pressie and eating his birthday cake. Aunty Meredith took some photos but I haven't seen them yet...I'll put them up at some point I suppose.
A little summary of Henry's first year for you;
- He cut his first tooth at 4 months and at 12 months old had 8 teeth - 4 top and 4 bottom.
- He took to breastfeeding and then solids like an absolute champ. I had minimal issues with Breastfeeding and we're still going 14 months later. He is finally day weaned though which is awesome!
- I did baby led weaning with Henry when he was 5 1/2 month. He was hanging out for food by the time I started but it was delayed as we were in Tassie for an extended period of time for Dad's last days. I am so glad I introduced solids in this way as Henry is an amazing eater. He loves all sorts of things, like smoked cod, smoked cheese and even olives. Will is great too but Henry has diverse tastes at such a young age
- Henry chats away but it's hard to know what he's saying. He seemed to start talking at 10 months with his first word Dad...then mum, bird, ball, bath and cat. He says 'this' and 'that' as he points to things now but doesn't say much else yet.
- He started crawling at 9 months and took his first steps right on his Birthday (like his big brother). He started walking unassisted for more than a few steps at 13 months. Now at 14 months he is toddling all over the place and is full of beans. He seems more active and into things than Will, who was more chilled out.
- Henry loves being outside and playing in the dirt. He loves wriggling his toes in the vegie patch and pulling out the grass. He loves watching the birds.
- He is a little water baby and just loved doing swimming lessons. They have been put on hold for now but I'm hoping to do them again in the New Year. He loves the beach and just crawls straight into the ocean with no fear. We'll be able to spend a lot of time down there as we're only 5 mins away now we're back in SA :-)
- Henry was SOOOO clingy but is just now happy to attend creche at my gym without crying and will go to people other than myself, Pete and his Nana and Grandma.
- He loves dogs and has no fear of animals.
- He loves the car and being out and about in the pram. He especially enjoyed our outing to the Adelaide zoo last week. He was particularly excited about the meerkats.
Henry pulls the cheekiest little faces and his eyes are the bluest, twinkliest eyes in the world. I am constantly being approached by people telling me how mesmerizing his eyes are. He is so cuddly and nuzzles right into us for cuddles. He also loves blowing raspberries on us. When he's tied the raspberries turn into bites though so we're often wary ;-)
Here's a photo of the last 12 months that Pete put together.
He is a great little poser as you can see!
